Broker Charges Guide
Zerodha Brokerage Calculator: Delivery, Intraday, STT & All Charges Explained
Zerodha's own charges page lists every rate, but doesn't actually add them up for you. Here's exactly what gets deducted from a Zerodha equity trade — delivery and intraday — with a real worked example at the end.
Delivery trades
- Brokerage: ₹0. Zerodha charges no brokerage at all on equity delivery.
- STT (Securities Transaction Tax): 0.1% of turnover, charged on both the buy and the sell.
- Exchange transaction charge: 0.00307% of turnover (NSE), both legs.
- SEBI charges: 0.0001% of turnover, both legs — tiny, but real.
- Stamp duty: 0.015% of turnover, buy leg only (a state government levy, standard across every broker, not Zerodha-specific).
- DP (Depository Participant) charge: ₹13.00 flat per scrip when you sell (₹12.75 for a female demat holder) — a CDSL pass-through fee (₹3.50 / ₹3.25) plus Zerodha's own ₹9.50 flat fee, for moving shares out of your demat account. Not a brokerage fee.
- GST: 18%, applied on brokerage + exchange charges + SEBI charges + the DP charge (not on STT or stamp duty).
Intraday trades
- Brokerage: 0.03% of turnover or ₹20 per executed order, whichever is lower — per leg.
- STT: 0.025% of turnover, sell leg only (intraday STT is much lower than delivery's 0.1%).
- Exchange transaction charge: same 0.00307%, both legs.
- Stamp duty: 0.003% of turnover, buy leg only.
- DP charge: none — the shares never actually enter your demat account on an intraday trade, so this charge doesn't apply.
Worked example: Delivery trade
Buy 100 shares at ₹1,000, sell at ₹1,050 (a ₹5,000 gross profit before charges):
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Brokerage | ₹0.00 |
| STT | ₹205.00 |
| Exchange transaction charge | ₹6.29 |
| SEBI charges | ₹0.20 |
| Stamp duty | ₹15.00 |
| DP charge | ₹13.00 |
| GST (18%, on brokerage + exchange + SEBI + DP) | ₹3.51 |
| Total charges | ₹243.00 |
Net profit after charges: ₹4,757.00 — about 4.9% of the gross profit went to charges, even with zero brokerage.
Worked example: Intraday trade
Buy 100 shares at ₹1,000, sell at ₹1,010 the same day:
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Brokerage | ₹40.00 |
| STT (sell leg only) | ₹25.25 |
| Exchange transaction charge | ₹6.17 |
| SEBI charges | ₹0.20 |
| Stamp duty | ₹3.00 |
| GST | ₹8.35 |
| Total charges | ₹82.97 |
